The President of Sports & NIL Law will play a pivotal role in shaping the legal and compliance landscape of our organization, driving strategic initiatives across the sports and NIL domains. This leadership position entails structuring and managing NIL deals, ensuring that athletes, teams, and sponsors operate within legal frameworks while maximizing opportunities for growth. Additionally, the role involves overseeing complex sponsorship agreements, safeguarding their alignment with organizational objectives, and delivering significant value to all stakeholders. By navigating the intricate regulatory environment, the President will ensure our organization remains compliant with ever-evolving laws and industry standards.

Collaboration lies at the heart of this role, as the President will work closely with sports organizations, leagues, teams, and athletes to secure critical licenses and approvals for transformative projects. From streaming platforms to sports news websites and innovative betting platforms, the President will ensure all ventures are legally robust and strategically sound. This includes negotiating broadcasting rights, licensing agreements, and sponsorship deals that position the organization as a leader in the sports industry. Leveraging expertise in mergers and acquisitions, the President will also guide efforts to acquire and integrate sports companies, leagues, and facilities, driving growth and expanding the organization’s footprint.

In addition to day-to-day operations, the President of Sports & NIL Law will provide visionary leadership, fostering innovation and resilience in a rapidly changing industry. By anticipating legal challenges and proactively addressing compliance issues, the President will empower the organization to seize new opportunities while mitigating risks. This role requires exceptional legal acumen, a deep understanding of sports and NIL regulations, and a commitment to supporting athletes, partners, and stakeholders in achieving their goals. Through strategic planning, effective collaboration, and relentless dedication, the President will be instrumental in propelling the organization to new heights.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute a forward-thinking legal strategy tailored to the evolving landscape of sports and NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) laws.
  • Establish and maintain comprehensive legal policies and frameworks that support compliance across all organizational activities, including sponsorships, acquisitions, and athlete management.
  • Provide proactive legal counsel to the executive team, ensuring that all business strategies align with current and future legal regulations while driving innovation and long-term growth.
  • Identify potential legal risks and opportunities, offering strategic recommendations to enhance business outcomes.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide array of contracts, including athlete agreements, sponsorships, partnerships, licensing deals, and acquisition terms.
  • Ensure all agreements address organizational objectives, mitigate risks, and comply with applicable laws and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to streamline contract processes, ensuring efficient execution and adherence to deadlines.
  • Regularly evaluate and update contract templates to reflect industry best practices and regulatory changes.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on NIL regulations, offering strategic advice to athletes, schools, and sponsors to maximize opportunities while adhering to compliance requirements.
  • Design robust compliance programs to address NIL regulations, ensuring that all sponsorship and partnership activities are legally sound and beneficial.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of NIL deals, making recommendations to enhance performance and ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Provide ongoing training and resources to athletes, teams, and partners to navigate NIL complexities effectively.
  • Lead end-to-end M&A activities, from due diligence to contract negotiation and post-acquisition integration.
  • Oversee the acquisition of sports companies, brands, leagues, teams, and facilities, ensuring strategic alignment and legal soundness in all transactions.
  • Develop and implement risk management strategies to address potential legal challenges during acquisitions.
  • Collaborate with financial and operational teams to assess the long-term impact of each acquisition on organizational growth.
  • Negotiate and secure licensing agreements with sports leagues, teams, schools, and brands to support the development and marketing of new products and services.
  • Establish strong legal frameworks to facilitate global expansion, ensuring compliance with international sports laws and regulations.
  • Lead efforts to secure streaming licenses for broadcasting live games and events, enhancing audience engagement and revenue streams.
  • Build partnerships with global sports organizations to support market entry and collaboration opportunities in new regions.
  • Provide strategic legal guidance for high-priority projects, such as launching a sports news website, betting platform, and other digital initiatives.
  • Ensure all projects comply with local, national, and international legal and regulatory standards.
  • Work closely with project managers and stakeholders to address legal and financial complexities, driving successful execution and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Establish governance structures to monitor the progress and compliance of ongoing projects.
  • Manage and oversee the legal aspects of athlete agreements, including endorsement deals, partnerships, and NIL opportunities.
  • Advocate for athlete interests, ensuring all contracts are equitable, transparent, and legally protective.
  • Provide education and resources to athletes on their rights and obligations under various agreements.
  • Address disputes or conflicts involving athletes, working towards resolutions that align with legal standards and organizational values.
  • Continuously monitor and analyze changes in sports law, NIL regulations, and related industry trends.
  • Develop and implement compliance programs to ensure all organizational activities meet evolving legal requirements.
  • Provide regular updates and training to executives, staff, and partners on regulatory changes and their implications.
  • Conduct internal audits to identify and resolve potential compliance gaps, mitigating risks before they arise.
  • Build and nurture relationships with key stakeholders, including investors, banks, sports organizations, leagues, and teams.
  • Act as a liaison between the legal team and other departments, ensuring seamless collaboration and alignment of legal strategies with broader business objectives.
  • Represent the organization in negotiations, conferences, and public forums to promote partnerships and strengthen relationships.
  • Develop strategic alliances that enhance the company’s reputation and support long-term growth initiatives.
Qualifications:
  • degree with active admission to a state bar in the United States.
  • 10+ years of experience in sports law, NIL compliance, sponsorship management, and M&A transactions.
  • Proven expertise in drafting and negotiating complex sports-related contracts.
  • Strong understanding of NIL regulations and their impact on athletes and organizations.
  • Experience with sports unions, leagues, teams, and athletes.
  • Knowledge of digital media, streaming, and sports betting is highly desirable.
  • Exceptional leadership, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel as required to meet business objectives.

Responsibilities:
  • Investor Relations: Cultivate and manage strong relationships with investors, banks, and financial institutions to secure funding for our sports projects.
  • Athlete Engagement: Work closely with athletes to understand their investment needs and connect them with appropriate opportunities within our platform.
  • Strategic Partnerships: Develop and maintain partnerships with key stakeholders in the sports industry, including teams, schools, and sports companies.
